Solution Designer

In order to adapt to the changing Belgian & European energy market design, Luminus is on a transformation journey to renew the IT landscape with the implementation of new applications and the improvement of existing applications and integrations.

 

As a Solution Designer you will be accountable for converting the business requirements & solution architecture into a pragmatic, affordable and future proof solution design, adhering to our architectural principles and security policies. You are able to quantify the designed solution into a feasible workload.

 

 

Your daily job

 

As a Solution Designer, you become part of an Agile team where you add value in 3 different ways:

 

Delivery & release train build activities:

  • You are accountable for estimating the effort and time required for solution design, configuration, implementation and unit/integration testing
  • You are accountable & responsible for creating, documenting & communicating the solution design
  • You are responsible to ensure the solution design adheres to the solution principles, IT & security policies and standards, guidelines and best practices
  • You evaluate the feasibility of the different solutions always keeping in mind the affordability, fit-for-purpose and value for money
  • You are accountable for the solution quality control by reviewing and approval of solution documentation, configuration, implementation and testing
  • You provide the necessary input in case there are dependencies with other changes
  • You understand the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) drivers and contribute to keep their evolution under control

Operations:

  • You identify & propose improvements to the solution design of the existing landscape
  • You are able to provide guidance to operational support
  • You are accountable within your domain as the subject matter expert of the solutions and have a good understanding on the E2E processes
  • You support the solution lifecycle

Collaboration:

  • You collaborate closely with the Solution Architect to ensure the solution design adheres to the overall solution architecture
  • You support the Solution Architect and the Business Engagement team during intake
  • You provide expert advice within your domain and advise stakeholders on how to best align business processes and solutions
  • You organize regular knowledge transfer of solution specifics and changes towards the team
  • You coach other Solution Designers/Engineers/Developpers within your domain where needed
  • You are responsible for supporting the technical team in their technical analysis and design

 

 

Your profile

 

  • You hold a master's or bachelor's degree in exact sciences (preferably in IT) or possess equivalent experience.
  • You have a proven track record of designing and implementing successful functional solutions.
  • You have worked for at least 3 years in a solution designer role.
  • You can read, understand, and critically evaluate solution architectures and the underlying business requirements.You apply functional analysis and design thinking to create solutions that align with business needs and architectural frameworks.
  • You leverage reusability to develop the most effective solution designs.
  • You are fluent in expressing ideas through data models, state diagrams, sequence diagrams, and other artifacts, as well as in clear, natural language (English).µ
  • You can discuss and explain solution designs to both technical (e.g., developers) and non-technical (e.g., product owners) stakeholders.
  • You have a good understanding of MACH architecture principles.
  • You understand the technologies, key properties, limitations, and design patterns used in building solutions, including Cloud deployments, DevOps, and databases (both NoSQL and SQL). Experience with Azure Cloud is a plus.
  • You have basic experience with the following languages and frameworks: React (Native), NextJS, NestJS, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
  • You are proficient in using UML to elaborate on solution design documentation.
  • You can understand data architecture within your domain.
  • You have strong listening, facilitation, influencing and analytical skills.
  • You have strong communication skills towards the business & IT counterparts
  • You are able to understand and discuss Business needs (users), facilitating pragmatic & affordable solutions
  • You are able to work autonomously while being a team player in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • You have good collaboration/interaction skills to optimize the flow between design & development
  • You are eager to work in the core business of Digital and be part of a significant transformation journey to shape the future IT landscape

Generation Senior Machine Learning Engineer

The generation department of Luminus plays a critical role in Belgium's energy landscape, with a production capacity of 2135MW. Ensuring the uptime and high performance of our power plants is paramount, and data is at the heart of this mission. We already utilize numerous machine learning models to optimize operations, and this number is expected to grow rapidly.

 

To continue this data-driven journey, we are expanding our Generation Data Science team. This transversal team supports both thermal and wind domain experts, working closely with those on the plant floor: maintenance engineers, performance engineers, asset managers, technical experts and operators. We seek a Senior Machine Learning Engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about applying their expertise to the complex world of electricity production.

 

 

Your daily job

 

  • You design, develop, and deploy robust machine learning models that address the unique challenges of power generation. These models are used to predict equipment failures, optimize maintenance schedules, enhance energy output, and more.
  • You champion MLOps best practices to ensure the long-term sustainability and maintainability of data products. You implement robust monitoring, testing, and deployment pipelines.
  • You work closely with domain experts, engineers, and operators to understand their needs, gather feedback, and deliver solutions that make a meaningful impact on their day-to-day work.
  • You collaborate closely with the IT NEO Data Platform team, leveraging their shared Python packages and workflows to standardize the building and running of ML use cases.
  • You stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning and explore emerging technologies, such as multi-agent reinforcement learning, to identify new opportunities for optimization.

 Your profile

 

  • You have a natural understanding and strong interest in the energy domain, with a desire to delve into the complexities of electricity production and its unique challenges.
  • You bring over 5 years of proven experience in industrializing machine learning products, from concept to production.
  • You are fluent in English and Dutch/French, allowing for effective collaboration and communication in multilingual environments
  • You are proficient with AWS cloud services, including S3, Glue, Athena, and Sagemaker.
  • You have demonstrated expertise in Python development, specifically for data science and machine learning.
  • You possess broad knowledge of machine learning frameworks, such as Scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyOD, and Darts, enabling effective implementation of diverse ML solutions.
  • You have strong DevOps experience, including Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker containers, ensuring smooth deployment and maintenance of data-driven solutions.
  • Having experience building multi-agent Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems is a plus.
  • Bringing demonstrated experience working in industrial environments, preferably within the utility sector is a benefit.
  • Possessing expertise in time series anomaly detection techniques is a valued addition.
  • Experience working with historians, such as Aveva OSIsoft PI is an asset.

Infrastructure Services Senior Project Manager

On one hand, changes are implemented directly by BizDevOps teams organized into release trains, while on the other hand extensive projects are overseen by project managers.

 

Luminus is seeking a Senior Project Manager who will lead a project team, ensuring that project stakeholders receive the promised benefits. This role involves a careful balance of managing scope, quality, value delivery, timing, and budget to meet commitments and expectations.

 

Your Daily Job

 

  • General Delivery

You will plan and ensure the successful completion of one or more IT projects within agreed timelines and budget. This involves managing scope, delivery, planning, budget, risks, resources, dependencies, quality, and decisions, while closely working with internal clients and suppliers.

  • Project management

You will either take part in or lead the preparation stage (including RFP, pilots, budget and business case definition, project governance, and plans) to ensure a strong project initiation that facilitates the successful delivery of the project's expected value.

  • Stakeholder reporting & management

You will act as a reliable partner to your sponsors and stakeholders throughout the project, especially during steering committees, offering regular, clear, and transparent updates.

You prepare decision support materials and keep reports and dashboards up-to-date with the latest project information.

You will proactively suggest solutions to realign the project if issues arise.

In certain projects, managing stakeholders and reporting involves engaging with senior management, navigating company politics, and employing strategies to ensure all stakeholders remain committed to achieving the project objectives.

  • Managing multidisciplinary teams in a multidisciplinary context

Your work will influence various business areas through diverse IT applications and infrastructure (including networks and security).

You will oversee the complete implementation process, leading a team of business and IT professionals (such as process owners, key users, solution architects, developers, testers, change agents, etc.).

You will serve as the main contact for stakeholders.

You will ensure that required resources are allocated or available or upstaffed by the respective capacity managers.

You will provide guidance and coaching to both business and IT teams, reporting their performance and progress to the appropriate business and IT managers.

Certain projects may involve coordinating with a wide range of departments and teams across the entire company.

  • Value delivery & Tracking

You will assist your sponsor in monitoring the business case, paying close attention to prioritization based on the minimum viable product that maximizes business benefits.

This might involve challenging stakeholders to ensure respecting Time, Budget, Scope and Quality, allowing only justified and approved deviations.

You are responsible for keeping track of all approved changes.

 

 

Your profile

  • You have a solid educational background in computer science or engineering.
  • You possess experience in IT infrastructure and/or IT security, which is essential for this position. 
  • You are experienced in project management methodologies and tools
  • You have successfully managed complex projects with proven business benefits. 
  • You have experience in handling external integrators and/or software suppliers as part of a project. 
  • Experience in Agile methodology is an asset, and having methodology certification is also beneficial. 
  • You have an affinity for engineering solutions at all levels, including IT applications and infrastructure architecture, functional end-to-end processes, and data modeling, with a strong understanding of business contexts. 
  • You are proficient in business English and can converse in Dutch or French. 
  • You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with clients and internal teams.
