Business Risk Specialist

Luminus’ Optimisation department aims to leverage market expertise to align with Luminus’ mission by 1) Increasing competitive advantage amid renewable energy growth, electrification, and new technologies, 2) Reinforcing resilience against price volatility and supply uncertainties and 3) Asserting interests with external stakeholders (e.g., Elia, CREG, Fluxys).

Given the rapidly changing market context, characterized by new technologies, evolving regulations, and high price volatility, the Optimisation department needs a Business Risk Specialist. This specialist will proactively identify and manage key business risks (market, compliance, and operational) and ensure Luminus' compliance with energy market regulations. In the currect dynamic market context, the Business Risk Specialist must stay informed about upcoming changes in energy market regulations (e.g., REMIT) and defend Luminus' interests in trading compliance investigations.

Your Daily Job

• Business Risk Management : You promote a risk-aware culture and conduct risk assessments. You monitor market conditions, recommend hedging measures and you collaborate on hedging strategies with Market Risk and Trading Teams. You support Finance in planning and Gross Margin follow-up and guide risk management for new products and projects. You maintain a risk register for senior management insights.
• Compliance Risk Management : You stay updated on regulatory changes and prepare for compliance. You defend Luminus in regulatory investigations and identify compliance requirements for new products. You enhance regulatory awareness through training and tools.
• Operational Risk Management : You mitigate financial and non-financial risks in cross-departmental processes. You develop a strategy to reduce operational risks, review and improve business processes for efficiency and risk mitigation. You implement incident management and share lessons learned and maintain a strong internal control framework and support audits.
• Portfolio Modelling & Reporting : You analyze forecast changes and maintain import processes. You ensure a transparent portfolio structure in the ETRM system. You identify reporting needs for portfolio analyses and develop an Optimisation KPI dashboard.
• Cross-Department Collaboration : You work with business teams to manage risks and meet objectives. You collaborate with Finance, Risk, Legal, Regulatory, IT, Downstream and Generation. You provide senior management with strategic insights and recommendations.

Your profile

• You have a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Finance, Engineering, Economics).
• You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in Financial/Energy Risk Management.
• You are fluent in English and Dutch/French.
• You possess a strong affinity with and understanding of the Energy Sector.
• You have in-depth knowledge of financial instruments (forwards, options, swaps) and risk management concepts (hedging, value-at-risk, earnings-at-risk, volumetric limits).
• You're well-versed in Energy Trading & Risk Management systems and skilled in modeling commodity portfolios.
• You excel in analyzing market risks and evaluating hedging strategies.
• Your critical thinking abilities enable you to navigate complex business concepts and identify opportunities and risks effectively.
• With strong communication skills, you can convey strategic recommendations to senior management and constructively challenge trading teams.
• Your collaborative approach fosters relationships and co-creation among stakeholders.
• Committed to regulatory compliance, you stay updated on energy market regulations and best practices.
• You're pragmatic and adept at problem-solving amid portfolio complexity and market volatility, demonstrating high learning agility and maintaining rigorous standards of accuracy and quality.
